NUTRITIONAL ADVICE
(Adrian Wilkinson 01405 740034)
Dog Whispers advocates a healthy diet for your dog/s, for us poor diet can contribute to behavioural problems via inappropriate protein levels and common food allergies that can sometimes be hard to detect. All our trainers use Trophy Pet Foods as do 70% of our clients.
Jane and Adrian Wilkinson make up the Trophy Team in the Doncaster and Scunthorpe area, operating in Post Codes DN1 through to DN17.
We are committed to ensuring that you and your pet receive the food and products you require. It is our aim to provide honest free nutritional advice.
Did you know, that those well-known brands of pet food on supermarket shelves often contain ingredients such as meat and animal derivatives, large amounts of cheap cereals and artificial colourings? Then to make this pet food palatable added ingredients could include sugar, salt and artificial flavourings.
Just like children, dogs will be full of beans and bouncing off the walls unable to concentrate if they are fed an unbalanced food. Indeed, before you even try to train your dog or improve his behaviour, you need to be sure you are feeding a good quality pet food, that suits his needs. If your dog is barking, nervous, itching or pulling on the lead, their diet could be the cause. Your dog will simply not be able to concentrate on learning something new if his diet is full of poor quality, inappropriate ingredients.
Take a look at the ingredients listed on the packet or tin, avoid the ingredients mentioned above and choose one that names a cereal like rice, oats or maize; names a meat like lamb or chicken and does not use preservatives, flavourings and colourings.
Plumb whole chickens, choice cuts of beef, fresh grains and all the wholesome nutrition your dog or cat will ever need. These are the images pet food manufactures project through the media and advertising.
What most pet owners don't know is that the pet food industry is an extension of the human food industry. Pet food provides a convenient way for some companies to use ‘left-over's' and similar ‘by' products to be turned into profit. Meat and Animal Derivatives are described as sourced from animals which have been inspected and passed as fit for human consumption and are the parts of the animal which are surplus to the requirements of the human food industry in the UK e.g. heart, lung, or muscle meat, which may not be traditionally eaten by people in this country.
