Dog Whispers training classes were set up in 2006 to help owners with unruly dogs that exhibit behavioural problems.

Training class mainly look at outside behavioural issues such as obedience levels, insecurities, appropriate behaviour in a social setting, poor recall and dog on dog aggression. Training classes are great for socialising your dog and working on outdoor behaviour but many owners still struggle with their dogs behaviour indoors. This could be because the dog is not being shown affective leadership which can lead to a plethora of den based behavioural situations developing that can affect the quality of life experienced by both dog and owner.

Puppy Classes

Puppy Whispers as we refer to it, prepares the new owner for puppy development by educating and training the owner first and the puppy second. Most owners are usually to blame for problems with their dogs and this is where it starts with a cute little puppy that ends up being a handful as an adult dog. We feel that the most important aspect of puppy hood is socialisation and unlike a lot of classes we allow full on puppy interaction throughout the duration of the class.

With puppies it is important to let them be just that, a puppy. Don't push your puppy too hard, at Dog Whispers we focus on basic commands such as sit down and come. It is important however to get the pups full attention, you are that puppy's world and if your not you should be.

Puppy classes are held: @ Hayfield Lakes, Hayfield Lane, Auckley DN9 3NP

  • 09.00 - 10.00 Saturday. Puppy Socialisation class £7.00
  • 10.00 - 11.00 Saturday. Puppy Behaviour and Obedience Class £7.00
  • 18.30 - 20.00 Wednesday. Puppy Socialisation £10.00

To attend both classes on Saturday costs £12.50

Adult Classes

Junior Whispers and Dog Whispers training classes are for owners that may be experiencing behavioural problems such as lead pulling, lunging on the lead at people, reaction to other dogs, cars, etc. As an example we meet quite a lot of owners that believe that their dog is aggressive with other dogs, we usually find that what we are dealing with is lead aggression, we assess the dog for safety reasons, then if we are sure in our diagnosis we let the dog off the lead with a pack of dogs. What usually happens is the dog runs around playing with the other dogs and the owner looks on in disbelief.

We also focus on general obedience in the outdoor environment, the aim being to bring more interaction between the owner and dog. To help the owners develop their relationship with their dog, we teach owner and dog how to search and hunt by tapping into the dogs natural abilities. To aid with off lead control we apply agility and fly ball training. We do not teach to competition standards rather we use this type of training as a form of therapy.

With older dogs socialisation is just as important, people talk about the need to make sure a puppy is socialised but in our experience sociability is important for dogs of all ages.

We have our own Good Citizen Award based on another well known award but ours is a little tougher and focuses more on obedience, we offer these at two levels at the moment, level one is basic and ideal for young dogs, level two is more technical and is a natural progression from level one.

Adult Classes are held: @ Hayfield Lakes, Hayfield Lane, Auckley DN9 3NP

  • 12.00 - 13.00 Saturday. Adult Socialisation class £7.00
  • 13.00 - 14.00 Saturday. Adult Behaviour and Obedience Class £7.00
  • 18.30 - 20.00 Monday. Adult Socialisation £10.00

To attend both classes on Saturday costs £12.50

Home Visits

Dog Whispers expertise is in dealing with behavioural problems that at times drive owners to distraction. These problems include, shyness, toilet training, food guarding, object guarding, location guarding, sound sensitivity, dog on dog aggression, dog on human aggression, dominant separation anxiety, submissive separation anxiety, lead pulling, protest marking, excessive barking, recall problems, obsessive compulsive disorders such as wall licking to self mutilation.

We have a very high success rate and believe that our methods are humane but also promote fast behaviour modification. Most clients witness a change in the dog's behaviour within the first hour.

Behavioural home visits usually take three to four hours. In that time a professional assessment is made of the dogs behavioural problems and the owners relationship with the dog. A program is put together and also put into action by the team to give the owner the confidence both in the program but more importantly in their dog. This program always consists of changes that the owners need to make to help the dog understand what it is that we want from them.

  • Standard Home Visit £130 approx 3 hours
  • Advanced Home Visit £150 approx 4 hours

Sniffer Dogs

Is an attempt at introducing a low impact fun sport for any dog and any handler. Sniffer Dogs will pit dog against dog and handler against handler in a competition based on the work of professional Sniffer dogs used by the police and the military.

The competition will test dogs and handlers ability to locate mispers (missing person or persons) articles (clothing or debris left by a misper or plane crash, pseudo explosives (spent shells) and pseudo narcotics (aspirin, paracetamol etc)). This will be done to strict guidelines and against the clock. The dog must locate, alert and re find under the handlers control within a specific time frame.

The dogs will need to be trained on a regular basis to achieve and maintain these skills and a certain amount of commitment needs to be given. Equipment will be required for both the dog and the handler to compete however this will not be expensive equipment.

Training takes place at various locations on a Sunday afternoon and costs £12.50. Please ring for further details.

Residential Training

Residential Training can be done one of two ways.

The dog is sent to Dog Whispers for a minimum of a week where it is boarded and trained. The owner then spends an afternoon learning about the dogs training and how to maintain it at home.

The owner and the dog spend at least three days with the Dog Whispers team learning about their dog and how to modify its behaviour themselves.

Home Boarding

Don't like the idea of putting your dog into kennels? Dog whispers offer a professional boarding service looking after you're dog in the home environment with other trained dogs and human companionship. All dogs receive stimulation, affection and lots of exercise.

To register your dog for this service an assessment of the dog has to be made so staff know exactly what they are dealing with, for example it is very important that we assess the dogs recall before we decide if the dog will be allowed off lead.

All staff are fully insured and have the appropriate licensing, staff also have to attend CPR and first aid course.

Assessments are made by our resident dog psychologist and usually take an hour and a half. To register your dog for this service costs £50, which includes the assessment, however we are very popular and only have a limited number of places available.

GROOMING (Rachel Gelsthorpe 07515117574)

Rachel has a vast amount of experience in animal related industries as she started work young at the age of 13. Rachel has worked on a zoo farm, livestock farms, stables, grooming establishments, kennels and catteries and also took work experience at veterinary centres. Rachel is quite an active person who loves the outdoors and use to take part in many sports but as she grew up animals took over most of her spare time usually animal related sports such as shooting and fly-ball.

Whilst studying at Bishop Burton Rachel found the breeds and grooming units one of her most enjoyed subjects and from this point she knew she wanted to study further into this area.

PET PHOTOGRAPHY (Rachel Sinclair Photography 01302 760448)

Hello, thank you for taking the time to read about my pet photography business. I am originally from London but I now live in Doncaster, South Yorkshire with my husband and funny miniature Schnauzer, Rafiki. I studied photography for 4 years at the Sheffield, Norton Photographic College where I attained my HND in photography.

After training for a few years in a high street wedding and portrait studio I decided to set up my own pet and family photography business that's quite different to all the rest. It's different because the photography takes place at a location of your choice, somewhere that has a bit of sentimental value to you, where you feel comfortable and relaxed.

Pets can feel very uncomfortable in a studio where it is very bright and can get very hot, causing stress and sometimes bad behaviour. Being restrained to studio walls can make it very hard to capture pets being themselves.

Why not have your pet photographed at a location of your choice, where it can run around freely and be itself and you don't have worry about it possibly having a wee on the studio floor. On location everyone can feel relaxed and enjoy the experience! You will have fun watching your pet having a great time, your pet will have fun doing what it does best and I will have fun capturing the true spirit and character of your pet giving you priceless memories that you will cherish and love forever. Pet photography tailor made around your furry friend!

Please visit my website for more information and to view some examples of fantastic pets I have photographed recently. I look forward to meeting you soon!
